You’ve come to the right place! Although we are located in Winnipeg we have members from all over Manitoba that can help you with information about growing orchids. Our meetings and annual show are also a great chance to purchase those hard to find orchid treasures.

Did you know?

The orchid family contains more than 25,000 species, with many still being discovered today. Orchids grow on every continent except Antarctica, in an amazing range of environments. In spite of their exotic appearance, many orchids are no more difficult to grow than other houseplants.

Beginners

Excellent beginners’ plants are sold in stores and garden centers, and a windowsill makes a suitable home for hundreds of species and hybrids. Once a few basic principles have been mastered, the choices for growing are endless.

Monthly Meetings

We’d love to help you get started on your orchid adventure. Our monthly meetings feature slide shows, plant sales, culture sessions and workshops, a monthly raffle and a yearly silent auction. There’s the excitement of our Annual Orchid Show, which attracts thousands of visitors every year. And members get the monthly MOS newsletter, plus access to an extensive library of orchid books, videos and magazines. All this and friendship, fun and good times.

Facebook and Twitter

Don’t forget to check our facebook and twitter page

by Peter T. Lin of Diamond Orchids

If you are spaced challenged and want to grow Vandas, this is the talk for you! Learn about the many compact species within the Vanda alliance and their hybrids. This is a fast-paced PowerPoint presentation that includes many pictures and cultural tips.

Peter T. Lin of Diamond Orchids is an avid orchid hobbyist, hybridizer, and AOS judge and resides in Southern California where he grows orchids in 3 small greenhouses. He grows primarily mini-catts, Mini Vandas, Dendrobiums and miniature species. Peter frequently gives talks at various orchid societies and has written articles for the Orchid Digest and ORCHIDS magazine.
Peter started growing orchids over 40 years ago, but then stopped due to school and starting a career. It wasn’t until about 25 years ago that the orchid “bug” came back and he is now heavily involved once again! He is an accredited judge with the American Orchid Society, and a hybridizer of mini-catts. He enjoys meeting with other orchid enthusiasts, and can often be found at various orchid shows and societies around the country.
Due to limited growing space, Peter likes to specialize in miniature orchids, both species and hybrids, and has received numerous AOS awards. His interests in orchids include Dendrobiums, Angraecoids, and Neofinetias. He is also known as “Mr. Sophronitis” as he has a passion for growing and collecting them. He maintains a collection of a several thousand orchids at his home in Southern California in 3 small greenhouses, outdoors, as well as an offsite greenhouse.
